What data do we collect?

We collect information about you when you provide it to us, when you use our services, and when other sources provide it to us, as further described below. In the course of delivering our service, we may cache query results or intermediate data strictly for performance, reliability, or continuity of your experience and general functioning of the service.

  1. Account information: We collect information about you when you create an account and/or log into our service. This may include your name, email address, profile photo or avatar (if available), and other information necessary to create and maintain your user profile. We also use this data to determine workspace memberships, role-based access controls, and feature availability.
  2. Service usage: We collect the content you create or provide while using Briefer, which is necessary for delivering core features of the service. This includes, but is not limited to, source code, configuration values, queries, credentials, generated outputs, and any data artifacts processed or produced during your use of the platform. This information is used strictly to enable data analysis workflows and deliver the functionality you expect from the service.
  3. Usage analytics and performance monitoring: We may collect information about how the service is accessed and used in order to help us improve performance, reliability, and the overall user experience. This may include technical diagnostics, usage trends, or other indicators of how the platform is functioning. This information is not used for advertising or automated decision-making.
  4. Content provided through our websites: We collect information you voluntarily submit through our website interfaces and communication channels. This may include form submissions, chat messages, support requests, feedback, survey responses, or participation in promotions and events. We use this information to respond to your inquiries, provide customer support, deliver relevant information about the service, and help you get the most out of the platform. This data may also help us identify opportunities to improve the service or better understand common questions and areas of interest.
  5. Data source access: If you choose to connect external data sources to Briefer, we access those sources only as necessary to provide the functionality you’ve enabled. This may include retrieving metadata, schema information, or representative examples in order to support features such as query generation, AI assistance, and contextual improvements to the user experience. We do not independently browse, index, or extract content from your data sources beyond what is required to deliver or prepare the services you’ve chosen to use. Your connected data remains under your control, and we do not use it for advertising, resale, model training, or any unrelated purpose.

Information we collect automatically when you use our services

We automatically collect certain information to help us operate our services reliably, improve your experience, and ensure performance at scale. This may include technical details about how the service is accessed and used, general usage patterns, device or browser characteristics, and other contextual signals. We may use cookies and trusted third-party analytics providers such as Google, PostHog, or Plausible to support these efforts.

In some cases, relevant data may also be processed by third-party providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or AWS in order to deliver AI-assisted features. This may happen either in direct response to your actions, or as part of preparing certain functionality ahead of time to improve responsiveness and quality. The specific provider may vary depending on your workspace configuration. This data is only used to enable features you interact with and is not resold or shared with third parties unrelated to the operation of our services.

We also use secure third-party services to support communication and transactional notifications. For example, we may rely on tools like Resend to send login links, alerts, and reports, and services like Intercom to facilitate in-app messaging, product guidance, and user support. These providers may temporarily process the minimum information required to deliver communications effectively, and they operate under strict confidentiality obligations.

How we use the information we collect

  1. To provide and operate our services: We use the information you provide, along with data collected automatically, to deliver core functionality, ensure secure access, and maintain personalized user experiences. For example, we use your Google login to authenticate your identity, assign you to the correct workspace, and determine your access level.
  2. To improve performance, reliability, and product experience:We use service usage data and diagnostic signals to maintain system stability, resolve issues, and enhance how the platform functions. This may include monitoring usage trends, reviewing logs for errors, or adapting the product experience based on common patterns. We also use feedback you provide to help guide design decisions and feature prioritization.
  3. To power AI-assisted functionality: When you use features that involve AI, we may process relevant data such as query content, metadata, or schema information in order to generate results or recommendations. In some cases, this processing may occur ahead of time to improve responsiveness or quality. This data is only used to enable the functionality you have interacted with, and not for model training, profiling, or resale.
  4. To communicate with you: We may use your contact information to send you transactional communications such as login links, alerts, status updates, or service-related notifications. We also use messaging tools to help guide onboarding, offer tips, or respond to support requests. These communications are part of the core service.
  5. To inform you about new features (optional): We may use your contact information and general usage context to notify you of new features, improvements, or product updates we believe may be relevant or helpful to you. You can opt out of these communications at any time.

We do not use the contents of your connected data sources for any purpose beyond providing core functionality within Briefer. This includes enabling queries, schema understanding, and analysis workflows that you initiate. We do not use your data source contents for marketing, model training, advertising, communications, or any unrelated product or service.

How we store and protect the information we collect

The information we collect is securely stored with trusted data hosting providers in the United States. We take data security very seriously and follow established best practices to protect the confidentiality and integrity of your information.

Sensitive data, such as data source credentials, is encrypted and never exposed to the client. Each workspace operates in a fully isolated execution environment, with strict system-level controls, restricted permissions, and hardened network rules that prevent unauthorized access. Our infrastructure is tightly secured and primarily accessible only from within our private network.

We continuously monitor, audit, and review our systems to identify and address potential risks. We regularly update our internal security practices and invest in improving protections as the platform evolves. While no system can ever be guaranteed to be completely secure, we are committed to doing everything reasonably possible to protect your data and stay ahead of threats.

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services to you. If your account becomes inactive, we may delete or anonymize your data after a reasonable period, unless retention is required for legal, operational, or compliance purposes.
